General Requirements and Considerations

A 56 Kbps Internet connection—high-speed connection recommended.

Users must add the MLS to their firewall and/or pop-up blocker’s list of “trusted sites.”

IBM PC-Compatible Computer Requirements

  • gigahertz Pentium III-class CPU or higher recommended; minimum 450 megahertz Pentium III CPU required.
  • 512 megabytes of RAM or higher recommended; minimum 256 megabytes of RAM required (may limit performance of some features).
  • Super VGA (1024 x 768) or higher resolution video adapter and monitor.
  • Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher.
  • AOL users (or users of any service with a proprietary Web browser) must minimize their primary browser and use
  • Internet Explorer 6.0 to access TEMPO.

Macintosh Computer Requirements

TEMPO can be accessed using an Apple Macintosh computer only if the computer meets either set of requirements

below:

An Intel-based Macintosh (Intel CPU) with:

  • Macintosh Boot Camp software to enable your Intel-based Mac to run Windows XP. Visit www.apple.com for more information.
  • Windows XP.
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher.
  • AOL users (or users of any service with a proprietary Web browser) must minimize their primary browser and use
  • Internet Explorer 6.0 to access TEMPO.

A Non-Intel-based Macintosh (“Power PC” CPU) with:

  • Internet access to TEMPO through a Citrix server.
  • 128MB of RAM.
  • 4MB of free disk space.
  • Mac OS X operating system or higher.

Q. Can I use Tempo 4.0 with my Mac?

Posted by PRO Thu, 07 Sep 2006 16:20:00 GMT

A.   Out of the box you cannot use your Mac for the MLS. Tempo does in fact require Internet Explorer 6.0 or above. Tempo since the beginning has said that they would only support Internet Explorer. However there are some alternatives for running the MLS on a Mac. Do remember that not one of these alternatives is supported by the Help Desk or the company Tempo and such use is your sole risk and responsibility. The alternatives are as follows:

If you have a New Mac (Intel Based Mac released this year) here are a couple of alternatives. Both of these alternatives require a registered copy of Windows XP:

Windows Boot Camp by Apple: http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/

Boot Camp lets you install Windows XP without moving your Mac data, though you will need to bring your own copy to the table, as Apple Computer does not sell or support Microsoft Windows.(1) Boot Camp will burn a CD of all the required drivers for windows so you don’t have to scrounge around the Internet looking for them. Note: Requires a registered Copy of Microsoft Windows XP.

Parallels Desktop for Mac: http://www.parallels.com/en/products/desktop/

Parallels Desktop for Mac is the first solution that gives Apple users the ability to run Windows, Linux or any other operating system and their critical applications at the same time as Mac OS X on any Intel-powered iMac, Mac Mini, MacBook or MacBook Pro. Note: Requires a registered Copy of Microsoft Windows XP.

If you have an Older mac (PowerPC based Mac) here is an alternative:

Virtual PC for Mac: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/virtualpc/virtualpc.aspx?pid=virtualpc

Expand the power of your Mac with Microsoft® Virtual PC for Mac Version 7, the application that makes it possible for you to access PC-only software, files, networks and devices from your Mac. Virtual PC 7, which is compatible with the Mac G5, offers important improvements in support, speed and reliability. Note: Virtual PC does not run on Intel-based Macs.

As you can see, there are alternatives. Yes they will cost money and some more than others, but they are alternatives none the less. They will be likely around the price arena of $300.00. The Help Desk and Tempo do not support the use of any of these solutions, so as far as getting them to work; you will have to call those respective companies. Once you are in the MLS we will be able to assist you with MLS related issues and questions though we cannot not be responsible for issues relating the Mac alternatives mentioned above.
